Origins
The Romans introduced
vines and wine to Spain over 2000 years ago, and with them a
whole civilisation that has marked the life of Mediterranean
countries to this day. Social life around a square and the appreciation
of good food and wine are customs that have been maintained in
Spain ever since.

The Arabs
After the Romans other
peoples became established in Spain, enriching the culture and
the gastronomy of the peninsula. The Arabs reached Castile in
the 7th century,
bringing the vine of the Verdejo grape with
them. The Verdejo variety is today the predominant grape of the
Rueda Denomination of origin.
