| This
is the characteristic white wine region of Castilla y Leon.
Its history goes back to the 14th century, and today 29
wine cellars are located here, mainly within the provinces
of Valladolid and Segovia. It has a surface area of 6,000
hectares of vineyards, with the Verdejo grape variety predominating,
in 72 municipalities in the provinces of Valladolid and
neighbouring Segovia and Avila. The high degree of specialisation
reached in the elaboration of white wines, together with
the use of a noble variety such as the Verdejo grape, which
is autochthonous and grown exclusively in the area, makes
the Rueda DO emblematic of Spanish white wines.
